Whether you're a proud dog parent in Calgary or just love all things furry and four-legged, you’re in the right place. At Urban Woof YYC, we believe every pup (and kitty cat) deserves a tail-wagging good time—whether it's a midday stroll, a cozy pet-sitting stay, or a new trick learned during play. This blog is your go-to spot for pet care tips, local adventures, fun updates from the field, and a behind-the-scenes peek at life with your favorite dog walkers. Let’s sniff out the fun together!

Building a Business You Love
Inspiration can come from many different directions. Back in 2007, my inspiration was Suki, my almost 3-year-old German Shephard cross. I knew I needed a career change, and I was in the right mindset to walk away from a great job to start my own pet care company. It certainly wasn't without risk, but I knew I had to do it - and it was at the right time. I ended up waiting tables for 6 months while my business grew - and the day I was able to hand in my black apron for good was pretty amazing! For over three years my dog walking and training business was an incredible experience - I met so many people in my small town, folks like me who loved their pets as family members. It was such a wonderful time in my life - and when it needed to end, I took those experiences with me every day.
At the time I always had a thought in the back of my mind that I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Fast forward 15 years...
I'd been thinking about starting a new pet care company for years, but could never seem to move from dreaming about it to making an action plan. Then the Universe intervened. I was part of a mass layoff at the end of 2024, from a job I truly loved doing, with a wonderful group of people. It wasn't easy, but I knew in my heart it was an opportunity for me to realize my dream again.
Walking with Purpose
Calgary is a beautiful city, with many places to roam. I'm looking forward to again meeting many new people, and their pawsome family members as I grow my business. I hope you join me on this blog journey as I speak to may favourite subjects, including starting small businesses, training with dogs, and turning neighbourhood walks into adventures with your pups.
